A Little About Me
Phil Stegall
I remember the first time I ever played percussion on
stage. It was my kindergarten Christmas play. My teacher
said I had an uncanny sense of rhythm so I was chosen
to play the "triangle" during the song " It came upon a
midnight clear". I practiced a lot for the show. Finally the
day came and I got in front of the choir holding the
triangle out in front of me. On the very first strike the
string I was holding broke and the triangle went flying
across the floor. As I stood there in horror the teacher
ran out and picked it up and escorted me off stage. And
that is how most of my shows have gone since but ill
keep trying till I get it right.
I had 6 years of band in school. My most recent
continuing education lessons on the drums have been
from Doug Fallis of Oklahoma city. He has been a
tremendous help. Jeff "hound dog " Holmes has also
been a great influence.
I have always loved classic rock and the blues
.Sometimes when I am playing a really cool beat or fill
and I think "that's great, that was very creative of me" its
usually not to much longer till I hear that "original" beat
of mine in some Chicago tune or Eagles hit. That's the
kind of music that has influenced me the most. Some of
the easier blues songs to play are the ones with the
most emotion and passion...they just feel the best to play.
